DIY Diaper Cake

I wanted to thank you all for the overwhelming response to the diaper cake I made for my dear friend’s baby shower. Your compliments mean so much to me.
I wanted to do a DIY tutorial of THE diaper cake for you all. I had so much fun with it!
56 size 1 diapers
clear rubber bands
large industrial rubber bands
decorative push pins
hot glue
1″ ribbon of your choice
round piece of cardboard to display
baking dowel rod
receiving blankets
“decorations” for your cake
cello paper (optional)
Step 1: to start your assembly, individually roll up each diaper TIGHTLY. Start from the outside tip of the diaper and roll in. Secure with a clear rubber band. Continue until all 56 diapers are rolled.
Step 2: place dowel rod up right in the middle of the cardboard. Place large rubber band around the rod and place diaper rolls around the rod in a circular fashion. The rod is going to become your center base for your diaper cake and keep it all together so you can transport it easily. There is going to be three rings of diapers on your bottom layer. To start your second ring, place another large rubber band around the first ring. Begin placing diapers. Repeat for the third ring.Step 3: Your second layer will have 2 rings. Your top layer will have one ring.Step 4: you are now ready to decorate

Step 5: I wrapped receiving blankets around the bottom 2 layers. I folded the blankets to size and wrapped them TIGHTLY around each layer. I then secured with decorative push pins. I wrapped the top layer with socks.
Step 6: I then TIGHTLY wrapped 1″ decorative ribbon around each layer. I secured the ribbon with a dab of hot glue. If you don’t use receiving blankets the ribbon helps to hide the rubber bands.
Step 7: I then pinned pacifiers, rattles, bibs, etc
Step 8: I used crinkle paper to hide any empty spaces
Step 9: Don’t forget a cake topper.  I used a winnie the pooh stuffed bear and put a knitted baseball beanie on him (notice our baseball theme?) You can be as creative as you’d like with the topper. Flowers, Pom Poms, a small wagon, all would be adorable.
Step 10: I used cello paper to wrap the entire cake in and tied it off with decorative ribbon. This helps to pull the whole thing together.
Diaper cake’s make for conversation pieces at baby showers, center pieces, and gift ideas.
Happy Crafting!

Showering Heather with Love

I was able to help throw one of my best friends baby shower on Saturday. Heather and I have been friends since 9th grade (a VERY long time)! It meant so much to me to be a part of her special day! I love this girl like a sister! Congrats Heather and Chris!
